It's heavy, padded on the bottom, but I wish I would have purchased a smooth surface model. They would be more sanitary and easier to clean. 😒

This is an absolute beautiful set, high quality and amazing to look at. Works exactly how it should while providing the aesthetic that comes with leaving it out as a center piece in the kitchen. It is a little hefty in its weight but that is expected when you have a good quality mortar and pestle. Overall this is a great purchase and would be an amazing little gift for someone!

I have had (for 40+ years?) a small mortar and pestle which I have used very occasionally. It’s just so small that it’s difficult to use. So, when I saw this much larger (made of marble, too!) mortar and pestle, I ordered it right away.It’s a wonderful size! The pestle is perfect for fitting in my hand and applying pressure to whatever I’m crushing in the mortar. The unfinished marble is also perfect for grinding herbs. It is rough enough (but not too rough) that it grips whatever is in the mortar and keeps it from sliding away from the pestle. My wife also likes it for smushing her avocados into guacamole. The mortar also has a sturdy base that won’t slip around, but it is also small enough that you can hold it in one hand if you wish.The roughness of the stone will mean that the stuff you grind up will stick to the surface. But that’s easy enough to deal with by simply washing it when you’re done.

I am impressed with this. I used it to make salsa and it really brought out the flavor of the salsa. It made me realize I needed even more flavoring than normal cause it provide so much additional flavor. I am using this on my basil in a dish and the added flavor was totally unexpected. This has made me pull out my hydrogarden and growing my own herbs again!

I love this mortar and pestle set. It is heavy and well made. The surface reminds me of raw fluorite, although I know it isn't that, but it gives it an authentic feel. Although it may be heavy, it is a pretty display piece when not in use. I will be using this quite a bit and I like the fact that it feels like it has substance. Personally, I prefer it to be bigger and weightier, so I know that I have a quality set.

This is an amazing pestle and mortar set, very heavy duty and rather large. It has a nice capacity for larger dishes like guacamole, and gets the job done fast! It is pretty heavy, and not something you'd enjoy lugging to the sink to clean out after each use, though, so I wish it wasn't so very heavy, to be honest. Short of that I can only rave about how effective the unfinished interior of the bowl is, how well it grabs what you are crushing, and how fast you can get crushing done. On top of that, it's a lovely piece to leave out in the kitchen. Very "apothecary" looking, but actually it has a really nice look to it. Which is a good thing, because it's not something you'd want to lug in and out of the cabinet either, lol. It would also make a very nice gift. I do recommend this set.

This thing is seriously heavy—definitely not something you’d want to drop—which gives it a sturdy feel when I’m grinding spices or mashing up guacamole. The rough, unfinished surface inside the bowl is a standout feature; it’s not polished out, which actually makes it grip ingredients like herbs, salsa fixings, or even pills better than smoother sets I’ve tried. After using it for a few days, it’s held up great with no cracking, and it looks pretty cool on my counter with its natural marble vibe. My only nitpick is that the unpolished texture can hold onto bits of whatever I’m crushing, so it takes a little extra scrubbing to clean. Still, it’s a beast of a tool that gets the job done, and I’m happy with it!

This is a bright white marble mortar and pestle. It came well packaged and undamaged. It weighs just short of 3 3/4 pounds. There are no noticeable imperfections. It does not have a shiny or glassy finish like one you might have found in an apothecary shop, but it is rather unpolished. This gives it a really nice gripping and grinding surface. It comes with stick on pad to prevent scratching surfaces.
